Lace II

Lace I & Lace II, are from the Seamstress Series. This series of mixed media works integrates elements easily at hand; fabric, thread, pins, and trimmings, with gouache and found paper. The traditional mending and decorative tools are from women from my own and other’s families. Mathematics and color charts appear in various permutations, combining hidden geometry and patterns of growth and form, all components of lace, patternmaking, and the process of restoration. Redefining the energy and honoring the arts and history of the seamstress, for many generations one of the only professions open to women.
