Les Feuilles Mortes

Stumpf uses an image transfer process with photographs taken during her time in France as a foundation or starting point for these mixed media paintings. The surfaces are developed by building up and breaking down layers of paint, gel medium, sand, and rust by scratching and scraping - a forced decay. The titles reference french poems and act as an invocation to the heart of the work and a meditation on the lushness of nostalgia and the passing of time.
